For the implementation of the project we took a “donor” Harley Devidson Sportster, produced in 1982, with Shovelhead engine of 1000 cm³ capacity. The motorcycle was taken in pieces, all the details were sorted, the engine was subjected to complete overhaul. Before breaking up all main dimensions of the combustion engine were taken to create a computer model and to design chassis. It should be noted that the first steps of the design office’ activity, which was formed in 2001, were the preparation of small-batch production of its own rolling chassis on the basis of Sportster engines. Report on this project is given in another paragraph.
4 rolling chassis of 00.00 modification have been designed and built in the workshop before starting to project chassis "Ambasadore". It was decided that a new project will get a modified frame 01.00. After making some general design sketches a frame model was made quite in a rapid way and a set of sketches for production was received. The Softeil type back suspension is the same as in chassis 00.00 with shock absorbers Fournalles, which proved to be the best after roadormance trial of chassis 00.00. A semirevolving front suspension was designed on the basis of suspensions of several motorcycles of thirties "Ariel red hanter", BSA, IMPERIA. The choice of this very suspension is determined by only positive impressions, left after riding restored motorcycles with suspension of this type. Moreover, this type of suspension is rarely used in customization, which makes it even better.
For the preparation of frame and pendulum we took a tube of 30 ХГСА type, 36х4 in diameter, produced on demand at one of Ural factories. The next stage was the design of a handle bar and its components, headlamp, rear fender with a boot, and the right side forward control. The documentation, which came from the Design Office was immediately forwarded to the factory. You may have a look at all the made components and compare them with the models.
For the present moment the project has not been completed yet. We expect to design and make exhaust system, tail-light, electronic control module, mirrors and the left side forward control. All the updates are available on our website.
From 15 till 17 of April 2005 the metal-framed motocycle was exhibited at " Motor Park 2005" in Krokys City. Almost all the visitors were amazed by the motorcycle. In spite of the fact that the motorcycle was not permitted to take part in Custom Show, it was inofficiously recognized the best custom motorcycle. We do hope that by the end of May you will see a complete project on the roads of our city.

That's all! All works on iron are finished. The luggage carrier is rectified, the casing of circuit's protection is made, all necessary apertures for electric wirings and cables are drilled. Details are transferred to the painted section. The assembly will begin at the end of next week.

The first details "leave" the painted section. In color, as well as it was supposed, the motorbike becomes even more beautiful. On the photo in gallery you can see a forward plug and a luggage carrier. Other details pass the process of preparation to find color and turn to the motorbike. The saddle is stitched manually as well as it is necessary to the old-timer.

The process of assembly is at the finishing stage. Rolling of the chassis is made and we can do the most interesting and "thin" work: manufacturing of electric wirings, brake and oil lines, exhaust pipes and certainly - the first test-drive. It is always exciting as the first appointment. We shall conceal breath. We wait... We work...

The process of assembly proceeds. Going units are not only beautiful themselves and pleased to eyes, but also, certainly, will transform the motorbike. "Forwards" are made and now it is time for the thin operation - manufacturing of drive cables and checking of kinematics. And though the kinematics is checked up on the 3D model, in a real life all can appear different.

Despite the motorcycle being assembled it is not allowed to use it yet. The pressure testing of the cable ends has been postponed ( for tomorrow). The wiring has been made. You сan see its fragments on the photos. An electric module produced in the Workshop controls everything. It includes some good options which are absent in the factory wiring: the lightning is switched on after receiving the charging, i.e. at the start the accumulator doesn’t waste the energy on the main headlight power supply. Considering the particular position and construction of the switching units the starter can be blocked in order to prevent accidental press. The starter is deblocked automatically, if the engine suddenly dies. The disconnection of the module is also previewed in the case of extra initiation of combustion from the starting charging device. The module showed itself in two previous projects ( Legat and Nomad). The works will be finished by the end of the week. The report on the first test-drive is in on line mode.

The time for the report on the test drive has come. It is an open secret that while designing such a huge mechanic device it is necessary to consider a great number of cooperating components and thus , the errors can be made. And here is the sense of the designing – error searching and error recovery, the development of the model and its successful run. So, let’s start the motorcycle. The ignition lock is cut into oil chamber ( on the left under the saddle), so we switch on the ignition by the left hand, and, as usually, we must push the lever and set going the starter. Everything works perfectly without any efforts. The closer of the starter is almost a sensor. The drive of carburetor’s baffler consists of one control cable (in contrast to two cables of factory construction), still it doesn’t make any problems. It is just necessary to move back accelerator’s handle to null engine’s speed. We switch on the first gear and… we found out the first error: gear operating drive’s kinematics is wrong. Getting into the second gear is difficult as it is impossible to bend because of the platforms. It would be better if there was a pedal in that position. We make a move to find other errors.The motorcycle doesn’t have any vibration damper, it is rigidly assembled, there are no vibrations – the handle bar is adjusted to the crutch and the parallelogram has got full capacity. The crutch functions perfectly. ( During the first test drive the crutch’s vibration dampers were not installed that’s why there was a slight swaying on bad roads. When the motorcycle gains speed suddenly the seat adjusts under the driver a little bit pressing him. Using “reverse” stop handles and clutch handles doesn’t make driving more difficult or inconvenient, except that the clutch seems heavier than the one in standard motorcycle. Let’s consider the motor in particular. At present we find Shovelhead motor to be the best. Not only that it is the last motor that possesses its proper name, not only that it looks great it even sounds in another way. You won’t hear such a sound with the help of tuning bafflers. Baffler’s heads and cylinders are made of iron!
The first test was short (several kilometers). The next one will bill more serious as we are planning to check the kinematic construction and serviceability in details. The second test will take place after the correction of the deficiencies, found during the first test drive.
