The restoration of the car is a complicated and an interesting task, let alone the restoration of the Mercedes, which is really difficult. Not only the design is complex, the demands for authenticity and quality of work are rather high. In spite of the fact that Mercedes is the commercial automobile and till now the majority of the firms all round the world produce repair pieces of almost each year of production, the task is not easy. Mercedes 320 entered our Workshop in 2003 in the state which the restorators will call astonishing.Such a car is considered to be complete, which means that the restoration process will be easier. The engine wasn’t original, but there were all and an original saloon upholstery. During dismantling we have found some chalked autographs under the upholstery of the body ( see photos). As we have understood these were the autographs of the masters, who assembled this car. The automobile was mantled according the carriage technology, which means that it has a wooden carcass. Unfortunately the car has been kept in a cold damp garage for several years and the best part of the wood has doted.
The restoration process will be described partly. Surely the automobile was disassembled completely, all the details underwent the diagnostics. The drafts were the result of the diagnostics. The parts, blocks and aggregations were made, were restored and assembled. Some of the lost details were lost, that’s why we had to make accurate copies of them. In REPAIR PIECES section you will see the computer models of the copied blocks, which helped to make the details.
The wooden body carcass is being made at present moment, as the basic elements of the body’s iron have already been restored and the chassis is almost ready ( it is impossible to assemble it because of the lack of main spring leaf of the front mounting .

To make the work with body iron and wood easier it is necessary to separate them. The head is not rigid because the main head surface is of fabric. We have decided to cut the body across the factory seams in order to have the details safe. We started with putting out the front of the car and making the carcass of motor baffle. As it was mentioned above the best part of the wood has doted. For example there are no vertical door studs at all. We make the template from the door’s wood block. To assemble the whole automobile construction ( it is halved) it is necessary to prepare a special tool set to regulate door position. The report on automobile mantling will appear soon.

We are still working over the wooden carcass. We have decided to make the details of the rear body carcass and then to couple the two parts. Some of the rear body details are not good. They will be made in another way.
